Arsenal fans reveal how Tottenham defender blocked a goal in north London derby

Vertonghen’s encroachment into the 18-yard box as Pierre Emerick Aubameyang took his penalty was not seen by referee Anthony Taylor

The north London derby produced a topsy-turvy end when Hugo Lloris saved Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s stoppage time penalty.

There was more drama to follow in the seconds afterwards when Arsenal attempted to score in the follow up, however, Jan Vertonghen got himself between Aubameyang and a certain goal to ensure the score remained 1-1.

Vertonghen was first on the scene to ensure Aubameyang could not score the rebound

However, while Tottenham fans were happy with the point – earned by Harry Kane’s earlier penalty – Arsenal players used Twitter to criticise referee Anthony Taylor.

They feel Vertonghen broke the rules by encroaching into the box and as Aubameyang missed, the spot kick should have been retaken.
